A “’50s Prom” – Style Version of The Chainsmokers’ “Closer,” Starring Kenton Chen

This week, we re-imagined the current #1 song in America as a ’50s prom classic — with the help of Kenton Chen (from “MMMBop”), in his Postmodern Jukebox debut. Watch our take on The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey’s”Closer”:

Ever since Kenton appeared on our channel singing backups on our “Say My Name” remake, he’s become a new fan favorite, thanks to his charisma and multi octave, pitch perfect vocals.  In “MMMBop” in particular, he stole the show by singing both the bass and soprano lines.  Clearly, it was time for him to make his solo video debut, and he gave an outstanding and fun performance of this enormously popular hit (Kenton upon reading the lyrics: “Who is this person stealing mattresses? It sounds like they’re making some pretty bad decisions”).  The soulful Mario Jose and Vince Cannady also joined us for some sweet harmonies.  If you were in high school during the late ’50s, this would be your JAM.

P.s. a few of you have asked if it’s cool to share the video when it’s “unlisted” – the answer is YES – share away!

This is only about a million times better than the original. How the hell is that the #1 song in the country??

  • Greg Leikam

Another Grand Slam by PMJ – love it

  • Matt Q

This is great, as were the last several releases… so when might we see an album released with these new tracks?

  • Borisgoodenough

OK, Scott, so this is great. But it’s too bad you were busy recording it last week instead of being here in Detroit with your on-the-road troupe! We missed ya…

  • marge201

Never heard the original but love this. What a voice on Kenton Chen! (Except I don’t enjoy men doing soprano. Springsteen does it, too. Sooo glad when they go back to their normal voice.) Great stuff, Scott and crew!

  • Notasaltine

    More Kenton!
