A Broadway-style remake of “Despacito” with Tony DeSare and “Hamilton” star Mandy Gonzalez
All of our thoughts are with the people of Puerto Rico as the island recovers from the devastation of Hurricane Maria. To help the relief efforts, we’ve put together a special Broadway-style remake of “Despacito,” starring Hamilton’s Mandy Gonzalez and singer / pianist Tony DeSare – watch the video, then visit our friends at the UNIDOS Disaster Relief Fund to learn how you can easily donate to help relief efforts – 100% of all donations go towards Hurricane Relief!
Proving that music is a universal language, “Despacito” smashed through the roof earlier this year, becoming the first primarily Spanish-language song to reach #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 since the “Macarena” was a craze more than 20 years earlier. As Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee gave listeners a sexy, pulse-pounding taste of their Caribbean home (with a little help from their far-northern neighbor Justin Bieber), we thought we’d take the song to our neck of the woods with a bilingual Broadway twist. Hamilton star Mandy Gonzalez makes her PMJ debut by adding some Broadway-style drama to the already spicy hit, with jazz singer / pianist Tony DeSare (from our “Pompeii” video) as her duet partner and piano accompanist, in this arrangement created by Tony himself and filmed at legendary NYC supper club, 54 Below. So enjoy this show tune spin, and spare what you can for the very real tragedy unfolding in Puerto Rico.
