How To Play the Postmodern Jukebox Version of “All About That Bass”

I got A LOT of mileage out of the Meghan Trainor hit, “All About That Bass.”  I first discovered it when I was looking for a song to feature the incredibly talented young bassist / singer / songwriter Kate Davis on a video.  It was just climbing the charts then, and it couldn’t have had better timing; here was a song with a great melody that was practically begging for an arrangement to feature an upright bassist, especially one with Kate’s star qualities.   The resulting video, of course, wound up racking up over 14 million views on YouTube.

A year later, I recorded the cast of the PMJ 2015 European tour performing the same basic arrangement, adapted it into more of an Andrews Sisters- meets-1940s nightclub presentation (especially at the end).  That video also received 10 million views on YouTube and countless more on Facebook.  Meghan Trainor actually shared both videos online.

While part of me thinks I could just re-release "All About That Bass" every six months and call it a day, I think that these two videos are certainly plenty for now.  I do recognize, however, that a lot of people have been searching for this arrangement, so that they can try their hand at performing it themselves.  That's why I've released a PMJ Songbook, available in our General Store. The songbook contains charts for 15 popular PMJ remakes, and I'm already working on Volume 2.

But now onto the good stuff - here's the chart for the PMJ version of "All About That [Upright] Bass" - click to zoom:

P.S.  The new Thursday video (not "All About That Bass") comes out on this blog tomorrow!

This is such an amazing idea! If only I knew how to play any type of instrument, I’d be all over this.
